Blood management in elective orthopaedic surgery 2005-06 hospital data

Page contents: Summary | Download report

Summary

Data from 20 Victorian and Tasmanian hospitals that performed elective orthopaedic surgery in 2005–06 are summarised in this report. These data allowed individual hospitals to review their own performance in comparison with other participating hospitals and provide an opportunity for us to report a summary of health sector performance in this important area of clinical practice.

Publishing reports such as this is one of the strategies we plan to use in our concerted and collaborative efforts to measure and reduce clinically unwarranted variation in the use of blood products across Victorian hospitals.

We trust that these efforts will help ensure that the care of patients requiring blood transfusion is progressively safer, more effective and more efficiently delivered.
