Clinical audit of platelet use in Victorian and Tasmanian hospitals 2009

Page content: Overview | Download document

Overview

We conducted an audit to determine whether current platelet transfusion practice in Victorian and Tasmanian hospitals is consistent with contemporary best practice clinical guidelines.

Hospitals with significant routine usage of platelets (as determined by annual issues of platelets to hospitals from the Australian Red Cross Blood Service) were invited to contribute data on 30 consecutive FFP transfusion episodes within their institutions. This audit is a repeat of the audit conducted in 2007.

The report provides the data collected for each specific hospital, and makes this available to those organisations. It then presents the overall findings resulting from analysing the data provided by all of the contributing hospitals, for 2007 and 2009.
