Earlier InitiativesPreviously, funding was made available for a wide range of self-identified initiatives that promote quality improvement and best practice in health care delivery. In 1998-99, Quality Branch, Acute Health Division, under a previous Quality Improvement Funding round, funded 16 projects and 11 programs in various rural and metropolitan hospital settings. Some projects are ongoing and some have been successfully completed. These targeted such areas as:
A report on lessons learned from previously funded projects under the Quality Improvement Program will be available shortly - watch this space. Best Practice Initiatives were introduced in 1997/98 to encourage health services and related agencies to develop innovative and cost-effective models of service delivery or clinical care, based on the best available evidence, to enhance clinical outcomes. For instance, stroke care was one project targeted under Best Practice funding with a three-year project evaluating the process, quality and cost of stroke management in Victoria. Best practice initiatives have been managed by the Service Development Branch.
