In sponsoring this series, the Metropolitan Health and Aged Care
Services Division of the Victorian Department of Human Services intended
that the conference would make a significant contribution to the
understanding of key hospital demand management issues and provide
delegates with
practical ways to assist hospital demand management planning for
the future.
Key themes included:
• Managing access for emergency and elective patients.
•
Creating a workforce for the future.
•
Improving the waiting list experience for patients.
•
Integrating care across the continuum.
The second conference in the series, Meeting Patient Needs: Achieving
and Sustaining Practice Change occurred from 20-22 May 2003, and
showcased a range of state, national and international innovations
and programs aiming to improve the quality, safety and appropriateness
of patient care through the uptake of research and knowledge into
practice and the redesign of organisational systems to support improved
outcomes.
