Consumer and Carer Involvement in HARP

HARP is committed to involving consumers in its processes. To support consumer and carer involvement, the HARP Reference Group has representatives from the Health Issues Centre and Carers Victoria. Additionally, consumer and carer perspectives were represented on the membership of the HARP Working Parties.

In 2002 HARP, along with the Primary Care Partnership (PCP) strategy, funded a two-year project to support consumer and carer participation in funded projects.

The project was conducted by the Chronic Illness Alliance. The project:

  • Provided a number of workshops attended by project managers and staff
  • Undertook a consultancy support service to individual projects
  • Established the Chronic Disease Self Management Special Interest Group (CDSM SIG).

The CDSM SIG continues to be facilitated by the Chronic Illness Alliance. Details of the bi-monthly meetings are available at http://www.chronicillness.org.au/sig/

The CDSM SIG website also contains two fact sheets which provide information and references about chronic disease self-management and consumer, carer and community participation in health programs.
