The Victorian Food
and Nutrition Policy 1995

HEALTHY EATING, HEALTHY VICTORIA

POLICY IMPLEMENTATION

Implementation of the Victorian Food and Nutrition Policy needs to be guided by committed nutrition professionals and involves forming partnerships between key stakeholders. It will involve action across many portfolios including Health, Agriculture, Education, and Industry.

Careful attention to the roles and responsibilities of stakeholder groups will be vital to the successful implementation of this policy.

An important component of policy implementation will be coordinated action at a local level. This will involve building alliances between primary health care, hospitals, community health services, schools and colleges, workplaces, food retailers, media and community groups.

The Policy process should establish forums between food producers, manufacturers, retailers, health and education and consumers. Increasing dialogue between these groups will facilitate a commitment to improving the nutritional health of the population.

A Strategic Plan for the next decade, with Annual Action plans will form the basis for translating these goals into reality. Monitoring and evaluating the progress of the Plan will be a vital component of a commitment to improved nutrition for all Victorians.
