Victorian alcohol statistics series
The Victorian Alcohol Statistics series is produced by Turning Point Alcohol and Drug Centre with funding provided by the department.
The report accesses a number of data sets including; data concerning alcohol sales, hospital admissions, deaths, road accidents, crime, drug-related ambulance attendances and calls to DirectLine.
The reports track key indicators of alcohol consumption and related harm within the Victorian community forwards in successive years from 1999-2000. The alcohol use and harm indicators in these reports include alcohol-related hospital admissions, alcohol-related deaths, alcohol-related assaults, alcohol-related serious road injuries, ambulance attendances where alcohol was mentioned, courses of treatment where alcohol was the primary problem and licensed premises.
The approach taken in these reports is in contrast to that used in the previous Victorian Alcohol Statistics Handbook, available from Turning Point Alcohol and Drug Centre. The Victorian Alcohol Statistics Handbook reported on different indicators in each publication.
It is anticipated that the information in the reports will be used for policy, planning and monitoring purposes.
