Cannabis and mental health - schools resource
A schools resource has been developed to assist teachers in discussing issues around cannabis use and mental health.
The resource, ‘Cannabis and Mental Health – teacher resource for years 9 and 10’ was developed in 2009 by the Department of Health in partnership with the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (DEECD).
The resource compliments the 'Is your high getting you low?' campaign developed by the Department of Health in partnership with the Australian Drug Foundation and Orgyen Youth Health.
This campaign featured a youth-specific interactive website highsnlows.com.au. The website features a series of animated short films which follow the stories of four young people and their experiences with cannabis and its impact on mental health. The films promote the message of seeking information, getting help and talking to others about concerns with cannabis use and mental health.
The schools resource draws on the short films and their accompanying fact sheets, in a series of lesson plans that encourage discussion and activities among students about cannabis use and mental health.
