Private Hospital Returns

The Health Services (Private Hospitals and Day Procedure Centres) Regulations 2002 require private hospitals and day procedure centres to report occupancy data to the Secretary on a monthly basis.

Hospitals and day procedure centres that submit data to the Victorian Admitted Episode Dataset (VAED) are deemed to have fulfilled their obligations under the regulations for the submission of the number of separations, same day separations and bed days.

Submission of the average number of available beds is required on the Hospital Beds return. This return is collected via the Health Collect Portal.

The minimum requirements for agencies to access the Health Collect Portal are:

  • An internet account with an internet service provider
  • Internet access for data entry personnel
  • Internet Explorer Version 5.5 Browser or greater (Version 6.0 is recommended) - available to download at no cost from www.microsoft.com.
  • Adobe Acrobat reader - available free of charge from www.adobe.com

Agencies not contributing to the VAED

For agencies temporarily not contributing to the VAED, the number of separations, same day separations and bed days must be reported on the AIMS Private Hospitals and Day Procedure Centre's Admitted Patients-PRS/2 Testing Hospitals return. This is an interim collection required until the transmission of patient level data commences/resumes on the VAED. Details for this collection will be included in the PRS/2 testing kit available from the Health Data Standards & Systems Unit (HDSS).
