General Information

The Agency Information Management System (AIMS) is an Internet based application that is primarily used to collect summary level financial and statistical data from Victorian hospitals to the Department of Health. Health Service Agreements between the Department of Health and hospitals document services purchased by agencies and hence indicate which returns are to be completed and submitted through AIMS.

AIMS data are used for internal and external reporting, primarily for Department of Health management, program areas, Department of Treasury and Finance, Commonwealth Departments and the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare. The data are used to assist monitoring of programs, for funding purposes, in demand management and for acquittal purposes.

Information collected by the Department of Health is according to discrete financial years. Each year the AIMS returns are updated to ensure the collections support the Department's national reporting obligations and reflect changes in hospital funding and service provision arrangements for the coming financial year. Where changes to programs are being implemented or revised, modifications may be required to hospital funding and service activity returns.

The Health Data Development unit is responsible for the AIMS system development and maintenance. For assistance on any aspect of the Agency Information Management System, please contact the Health Collect Help Desk. Rural hospitals should first contact their Regional Office.

User Manuals

AIMS User Manuals are published on the AIMS website by the Health Data Development unit. These manuals document the reporting requirements and source data definitions for returns collected on AIMS.

Refer to the AIMS Public Hospital User Manual website or AIMS Private Hospital User Manual website for specific information relating to the AIMS data collections. Individual forms and instructions for completing forms are loaded onto the website as separate documents to enable easy viewing or downloading.
