Overview

In 2003, the Aged Care Branch of the Department of Human Services (Victoria) contracted the Gerontic Nursing Clinical School of La Trobe University to develop a set of quality of care performance indicators for the State’s public sector residential aged care services (RACS)1. It is intended that the quality indicators identified and developed in this Project will complement and be used in conjunction with the accreditation standards. While numerous quality indicators have been developed and evaluated in the United States, little has been done in Australia and even in the US debate continues regarding which indicators are most appropriate.
