Introduction

Victoria’s population is ageing. By 2021, the number of Victorians over the age of 70 will almost double, to about 730,000. With this changing dynamic, governments need to consider how they can best concentrate their efforts to be responsive to the diversity of needs among older Australians.

Unlike most other State Governments, Victoria remains a major player in residential aged care services.

This policy document states where the Victorian Government considers it can best focus its efforts to ensure that the changing needs of the whole Victorian community can be met through improving overall access to residential aged care in this State.

It maps out where the Victorian State Government sees its role within what is primarily a Federal system of residential aged care.
