This section of the site contains documents that articulate the Victorian Government’s policy directions for aged care:

  • Supported Residential Services
    Provides information about the role of the Department of Health in regulating the SRS sector including registration, monitoring processes and complaint investigation on the Policy and guidelines page.
  • Personal Alert Victoria
    The program and service guidelines have been developed for use by managers of PAV designated assessment agencies and their staff undertaking PAV assessments, PAV service providers, policy makers, and Department of Health staff. The guidelines detail the PAV operational policies and procedures.
  • Elder abuse prevention and response guidelines 2012-2014 and With respect to age - 2009
    The Elder abuse prevention and response guidelines 2012 - 2014 outline the government’s priorities, actions and measures to help protect the safety and well being of older Victorians - they complement, With respect to age – 2009 the Victorian Government practice guidelines for health services and community agencies for the prevention of elder abuse.

  • Hoarding and squalor
    The Department of Health is undertaking a short term project that will lead to development of a service response framework to address hoarding and squalor. A discussion paper documents what is known about hoarding and squalor related behaviours and existing clinical and practical service response in Victoria. This paper may be found in the Publications section of this site.
  • Dementia
    Dementia services policy and practice.
  • Carers
    Charter, policy and guidelines supporting people in care relationships.
  • Aged Care Land Bank
    This program assists not-for-profit residential aged care providers to develop new services in areas of high need through the provision of concessional land.
  • Generic briefs
    These briefs provide guidelines for the planning and design of the following types of health and aged care facilities:
    • Aged Care Assessment Services
    • Aged Care Residential Services
    • Community Rehabilitation Centres
    • Hospice Unit
    • Integrated Rural Health Services
    • Sub-Acute Care Facilities and Specialist Clinic
