Older people in Public HousingPage content: Overview | The 2008-2009 funded projects | Download documents | Further information OverviewWell for Life in Public Housing is a further innovation of Well for Life and was rolled out in the North and West Metropolitan Region of Melbourne over 2006-2007. The aim was to engage older people living in public housing to become more involved and active within their communities through participation in physical activity and improved nutrition. Overall eight projects were implemented in public housing sites, including four in Neighbourhood Renewal areas and three in public housing sites, including the older person’s high rise blocks in Footscray and Williamstown. The projects were a collaborative effort between the Department of Human Services and a range of organisations from other sectors and engaged 565 older residents in a variety of activities including cycling, tai chi, market visits, walking and eating, and fishing. Well for Life in Public Housing was evaluated during 2007 by the University of Melbourne. It was found to be successful overall and the Aged Care Branch has expanded Well for Life in Public Housing further in North and West Metropolitan Region, and to Hume Region and Southern Metropolitan Region. Information about the Well for Life in Public Housing in North and West Metropolitan Region the evaluation report and associated short stories are available from the publications section.
