Local government information

Local government plays an important role in helping prevent falls among seniors through the development and provision of safe and well maintained public environments, and specific programs and services including:

  • hazard free walkways, facilities and buildings
  • programs and services promoting physical activity or other health promoting behaviour impacting on falls (for example parks, walking paths or tracks, bicycle lanes and paths, local community exercise and activity programs, community education programs)
  • the provision of information, and
  • the provision of ‘falls prevention aware’ community care services.

The information in this section relates only to environmental public safety issues.

Falls prevention health promotion programs (education material, posters etc) and programs aimed at home and community care workers are located in the health professional section of this site.
