Seniors living in residential aged care

Facts about falls in residential aged care

Falls rates are substantially higher among older people living in residential aged care facilities than those living in their own home, with between 30-60% of residents experiencing one or more falls each year. Falls occur in ambulatory and non-ambulatory residents in residential aged care, with the rate of falls reported as 2.5 times greater for ambulatory residents. In facilities that care for people with dementia, falls rates may even be higher.
