Steps to Stay on Your Feet - Speaker's kit and training videos

Developed by: Injury Control Council of Western Australia (ICCWA)

Format: Videos, manual and handouts

There are two components to this information package, the speaker's kit and video, and the training video. The videos cover nine risk factors for falls: hazards, health, medicines, eyesight, diet, foot care and footwear, balance, walking patterns and physical activity.

The speaker's kit and speaker's video can be used by service providers and trained volunteers to give presentations to community groups. Sessions run for 45 minutes and include a 15-minute video, a manual that outlines the program, a range of handouts (falls risk checklist, a shoe safety checklist and a home safety checklist) and evaluation forms. The kit also includes 4 brochures (on the environment, medicines, being active, and taking action).

The training video runs for 60 minutes and covers each risk factor in greater depth. The training program has been developed to run for nine 45-minute sessions. The video can be used to train volunteers and educate service providers.

The resources can be purchased from the ICCWA website. Other information related to the Stay on Your Feet WA program is also available from their website.
