There are four sessions, each developed to run for 2 ½ hours, to groups of up to 20 people. Sessions are conducted by multi-disciplinary staff, and target seniors (and their families/carers) who have a moderate to high risk of falls. Sessions include:
The manual includes a program outline, sample letters, handouts that can be modified to suit the various disciplines presenting), evaluation forms and a participant falls risk check list. The program also includes discipline specific PowerPoint presentations. Note: The vision PowerPoint presentation includes extensive notes. Falls and older people: Stepping into falls managementDeveloped by: Goulburn Valley Health Service Format: PowerPoint presentation This is a detailed PowerPoint presentation (56 information slides) covering a range of aspects of falls prevention: the magnitude of the problem, consequences, costs, who is at risk, the specific risk factors and strategies to address each risk factor, what to do if you do fall and information on falls and balance clinics. This resource has been included in its complete format. However, given the amount of information it is advisable that it is presented over a number of sessions, or condensed to meet specific target group needs. Mabel has had a fall - and she's not happyDeveloped by: Barwon Health Primary Care Forum - SAIL Falls Prevention Program Format: Interactive performance based education session - program outline. An innovative approach to raising awareness of falls to seniors living independently in their own home. This interactive, light-hearted performance is based around a character named Mabel who has had a problem with her balance. Through her story the audience learns how Mabel can reduce her risk of falling and continue living safely at home. The session takes about half an hour depending on audience participation. The suggested script and format can be adapted to suit the target audience. Availability:
