Closing the Health Gap Evaluation

The Department of Health engaged Urbis Pty Ltd to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of Victoria’s regional approach to Closing the Health Gap.

The evaluation will examine the performance of the Closing the Health Gap initiative in Victoria against its aims. The evaluation will focus on measuring progress against the five priority areas outlined in the Victorian Statewide implementation plan.

The evaluation will:

Urbis developed the evaluation framework based on the Statewide implementation plan. The framework links work at the local and regional level with national and state measures and reporting requirements. Urbis consulted with key stakeholders to develop the framework including the department's regional offices and regional Closing the Gap committees.

The evaluation includes quantitative and qualitative data, and involves regular consultation and communication with stakeholders.

The evaluators are conducting activities to develop the capacity of local and regional stakeholders to evaluate their activities and programs to contribute to the statewide evaluation.

Urbis commenced work in late 2010. The Baseline Report produced early in the evaluation is now available.

A review of progress is undertaken every six months. The findings of the review of statewide and regional activities in the January – June 2011 period are now available in the Closing the Gap in Health Outcomes Progress Report October 2011.

The evaluation will include an interim report in 2012 and a final report after the completion of the four years of funding in 2013.
